Town Facility Study Group

About the Process
The Town of Manlius has completed several studies over the years examining the condition, functionality, and long-term needs of Town facilities. These studies have identified challenges related to accessibility, meeting space, office space, public safety operations, and the ability of Town facilities to meet future needs.
At the same time, many residents expressed a desire to be involved earlier in the conversation before options were developed and decisions were made.
In response to that feedback, the Town has established the Town Facility Study Group.
The purpose of the Study Group is not to determine what should be built or where it should be located. Rather, the group will help the Town better understand community priorities, gather meaningful public input, and develop recommendations regarding future public engagement and next steps.
The goal is to create a process that is transparent, collaborative, and informed by both technical information and community perspectives.
What Will the Study Group Do?
The Study Group will:
  • Review existing studies and background information
  • Help identify community priorities and values
  • Participate in public engagement efforts
  • Help gather and interpret community feedback
  • Recommend approaches for future public engagement
  • Develop a final report summarizing its findings and recommendations
The Study Group will serve in an advisory role only and will not make final decisions regarding any future facility project.
Why Are We Doing This?
One of the most common themes we heard from residents was that they wanted opportunities to provide input earlier in the process.
This effort is designed to create those opportunities.
Rather than beginning with a specific proposal or predetermined solution, the Study Group will focus first on understanding community priorities, gathering ideas, and identifying the questions that should guide future discussions.
The Town believes that better decisions are made when residents have multiple opportunities to participate, ask questions, and share their perspectives.
Community Engagement
A major focus of the Study Group's work will be community engagement.
Planned activities include:
  • A Community Big Ideas Workshop
  • Outreach at community festivals and events
  • Stakeholder conversations
  • Additional engagement opportunities identified by the committee
Residents will have multiple opportunities to participate throughout the process.
Information about upcoming events and opportunities for involvement will be posted on this page.
Transparency and Public Updates
The Town is committed to keeping residents informed throughout the process.
Following each meeting, a public summary will be posted that highlights:
What We Learned
Key information discussed or reviewed.
What We Heard
Community feedback and emerging themes.
Key Questions
Issues that require additional discussion or exploration.
What's Next
Upcoming meetings, engagement opportunities, and next steps.
These updates are intended to provide residents with an accessible way to follow the process as it evolves.
