Over a 26 week period that began in late January of 2026, the Town of Manlius Fire and EMS Committee, consisting of representatives from the towns of Manlius and Pompey, the villages of Fayetteville, Manlius and Minoa, and the Kirkville Fire District, have conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the community’s current fire protection and emergency medical service delivery system. This work has included reviewing staffing and personnel availability, call volumes and incident types, response and arrival times, mutual-aid reliance, facilities, apparatus and equipment, operating costs, existing debt and assets, contracts, governance, a comprehensive study of the same that was issued to the town in 2011 that recommended consolidation, and the differing capabilities and demands of each agency. The committee’s purpose has been to determine whether services are being delivered effectively, efficiently, sustainably, and equitably across the entire town, while identifying operational or financial gaps and evaluating opportunities for greater coordination and a more unified system. Ultimately, this work is intended to provide the Town and its residents with a clear, fact-based understanding of the current system and a responsible framework for determining how Fire and EMS services should be organized, funded, governed, and delivered in the future.
