Meeting Highlights from the Clerk – 03/27/2024
Town Councilor Appointment
The Board appointed Ingrid Gonzalez-McCurdy to the Town Board for a 1 year-term expiring 12-31-24 to fill the vacancy of former Councilor Heather Waters.
Open Podium
- Matthew Denton spoke regarding Local Development Corporation (LDC) and not being used to obtain a new Town Hall. Mr. Denton spoke to the purpose of the LDC purchasing or leasing real property that is owned by a County, City, Town, or Village that is not used for the County, City, Town, or Village.
- Elaine Denton also spoke regarding LDC, stating that the Town would not be able to use the LDC for the purchase of property for a new Town Hall. Mrs. Denton referenced the 2011 Comptroller’s report. Also feels that there should be community outreach and meetings to get the community’s input before moving forward.
- Mike Langan is a part of the community Aquatics group with Steve Ball and believes that the community needs the aquatic center. Mr. Langan passed on to the Board the findings of a study that was completed in 2011-2019. Supervisor Deer advised Mr. Langan that he had spoken to Mr. Ball and that a study group would be put together soon to do research and send out surveys to the community.
- Grant DeBruin joined via zoom to discuss parking concerns in the area of McClennan Dr. Captain Snyder with the Town of Manlius Police Department stated that it was not a known problem in the area. Supervisor Deer advised Mr. DeBruin that the Town would continue to monitor this concern.
Earth Month Proclamation & 2024 Budget
- Councilor Kriesel read a proclamation recognizing April as Earth Month and encouraging all residents to participate in EarthFest on May 4th, 2024.
- The Town Board approved the budget for EarthFest as presented.
Manlius Watershed Stewards
Councilor Nicolson gave an update from the Manlius Watershed Stewards meeting that was held on 03-19-24. Next meeting will be 04-16-24 which is open to the public. The focus of the committee is to collect data to create a record to help homeowners and policy writers make better decisions. The Annual Creek Walk will at Millrun in Manlius and is being moved to September so that it would not conflict with EarthFest.
Syracuse Metropolitan Transportation Council
Councilor Nicholson gave an update on the Syracuse Metropolitan Transportation Council study. There will be an Open House at the Village of Manlius Auditorium on 04-11-24 from 6pm – 8pm with a brief presentation at 6:15pm.
Perry Springs Work
The Town Board Authorized Supervisor Deer to sign the agreement with LaBella for the work at Perry Springs.
Local Development Corporation – Manlius Redevelopment Corporation
The Town Board discussed a potential resolution for creating an LDC. After consideration the Town Board decided to table the matter for a future meeting.
Pro-Housing Pledge & Support Letter
The Town Board adopted the Pro-Housing Pledge to take positive steps to alleviate the housing crisis by taking the following steps.
- Streamlining permitting for multifamily housing, affordable housing, accessible housing, accessory dwelling units, and supportive housing.
- Adopting policies that affirmatively further fair housing.
- Incorporating regional housing needs into planning decisions.
- Increasing development capacity for residential uses.
- Enacting policies that encourage a broad range of housing development, including multifamily housing, affordable housing, accessible housing, accessory dwelling units, and supportive housing.
